A Letter to My Village

You have heard the saying “behind every strong/successful woman, there are a group of women behind her hyping her up.” For me that is a true statement. Without God and the strong women that he placed in my life, I am not sure that I would be where I am today. As I look back over my life lessons, my dark moments, successful moments and imperfect moments, I can recall who was there each step of the way.

Some of them have been in my life for what seems like forever and some of them have only been here for a short period of time but have made a significant impact in my life. So today, I have decided to write a letter to my tribe to thank them for just being who they are and to let them know that I am forever grateful.

The Young Free Spirit: Thank you for being young, carefree and willing to take risk. You remind me not to take life so seriously and that you can always find something in the journey even if it means walking down an unfamiliar path. You are one of my biggest cheerleaders and for that I am forever grateful.

The Rain: Thank you for watering the earth with your truth and boldness on any given day. Thank you for showing the world that rebirth and transformation are a part of life that is necessary to live the life that is truly designed for you. It is okay to transform each year of your life to become and always be light.

The Firecracker: Thank you for using your voice, even in times when you are unsure of how the world will hear you. You are an example of standing firm in who you are even when you were afraid to tell your story. You stepped out when the time was right, and it is beautiful to let the world see you walk in your truth even when you may have felt it was too late. It reminds me that it is never too late to discover who you are meant to be.

The Ray of sunshine: Thank you for willingness to stay positive no matter what your circumstance. You have a smile and spirit like no other that brightens up any room that you walk in. Thank you for being you even when you are on the journey to self-discovery.

The Silent Noise Maker: Thank you for being different, you don’t say much but when you do the world is forever changed by your observations and words that are meticulously formed with thought behind them. It reminds me that you don’t always have to be loud to be powerful.

The Rock: You set the foundation for the woman that I am today. I am inspired by your willingness to try something new and your determination to be better every day. I am truly humbled by your unconditional love and the way that you have carried me and my family from day one. You are truly an example of God’s unconditional love in the physical form.

The Calm: You have been there during the times when I felt like I had no one. You listened to me cry on the phone when I didn’t have the words to say anything. You were there through so many life changes. You were my constant calm when my world was turned upside done. We have been there for each other for some great and not so great moments. You are the physical result of what happens when God removes bad people from your life and replaces them when someone good. You my friend were a miracle.

The Baby Sister: You are the one that marches to the beat of her own drum. Although we are thousands of miles away, our beats are always in sync. You remind me that life should be explored, it is okay to work hard and to live in the moment. Thank you.

The Newbie: You remind me that it is okay to form new friendships and that it is okay to let people in. I am also reminded of the importance of communication, vulnerability and boundaries and how it takes work if the friendship is worth it.

The Petty Twin: The title says everything! Sometimes you have to face or hear the truth in order to truly be free. You need someone who is going to keep you honest.

My Social Connection: You keep me grounded and connected by reminding me of societal norms and life events. We can discuss any topic under the sun without judgement. We can go days without talking and pick right up where we left off. Thank you for the reminder that not all friends have to be in the same location.

My Zodiac Soulmates: We connect on many levels even though we have the same quirks. We truly understand each other’s weird way of connecting and we are totally okay with it. You remind me that there are other people in this world that will just “get you”.

Thank you for always being a part of my life. I am sure there are sometimes that I would not have made it without you. I would even venture out to say that beside every successful woman there is a group of women taking the journey right along with her. That is my truth.
